Baby picture

For this photo, i reenacted a baby photo. I then cropped the photo and adjusted the curves and slightly blurred the background so I was the main focus.

dipytycqh

For my diptych photo, I chose to put a natural landscape and an urban landscape together. They represent the curves found in an urban area verse the curves found in nature.  Both show paths leading to a specific destination, going in the same direction. Although they are completely different looking photos, i think they work together for a diptych picture because the resemble similar ideas but in different scenarios. I also chose to unify the picture with a green and dark border because both photos contain these colors. I also like how the 'sky' (the building) in the urban picture is complimentary of the sky in the nature picture.

Pheme, goddess of popular rumor

Seen by some as the messenger of Zeus, Pheme, also know as Fame, is the goddess of popular rumor. Pheme did not care about the nature of the rumors and gossip she spread, whether they sounded good or evil. She was constantly prying and announced whatever she heard, at first of only a few, then eventually louder, until everyone had known.

Texture photo

For the texture picture, I cropped some of the sides off to avoid distraction. I also changed the curves, especially on the upper wall, then blurred the edge. I also brightened it and burned the edges of the picture.

Environmental Photo

I didn't do much to this picture, just added some contrast and brightness, then added a Gaussian blur filter to the background so it wasn't too distracting.

IB portrait

In this IB portrait, i added contrast and brightened up her face a little. I really like how in my photo she put the scarf around her head to make it look more playful, but her face is more serious than normal. I think the lighting was very good for her.

IB

For this photo, i brightened it and added contrast in photoshop. I tried to get rid of some of the graininess by slightly blurring her face. I also changed the color to a custom black and white in photoshop.

in class studio portraits- Sarah!

During class, we had studio time and took pictures of each other. To portray sarah as a nerd, i gave her some nerd glasses and a book. I brightened the picture in photoshop and added some contrast. The picture was also changed to a custom black and white in photoshop.

Friday, March 12, 2010

For this portrait, i used an ISO of 200 and a cloudy white balance. In photoshop i blurred the background slightly and made the rock and the subject clear. Rembrandt lighting was used on his face. In iphoto, i boosted the color a little. I also copied sticks and trees from the background as a border for my photo.

portrait on the rocks

For this portrait, i used a background that was summery and portrayed a happy mood. I made the ISO 200 and used a custom white balance. I also messed with the curves and boosted the color on iphoto. To make it look more professional, i added a rock background, which i took from the actual photo.

Portraits- Evan and Emily

For this photo, i used an inside light source, and ISO of 400, and a custom white balance. On emily's face is a rembrandt shadow, while evan has a sort of loop shadow. One thing i would change is how high evan's nose shadow covers his eye. I also changed the photo to black and white so the color's wouldnt be distracting.

Portrait- Michael

This photo uses an ISO of 200 and a custom balance. I changed the color setting to vivid. This photo uses rembrandt lighting. There is a slight triangle located on this upper cheek. I changed the curves slightly and boosted it in iPhoto.

Portraits- Korey

For this photo, i used an ISO of 200, and a custom white balance. This photo uses split lighting, with light reflecting back onto the subject's face. I used photoshop to brighten it a little and added some contrast in iPhoto.

Red Sweatshirt

I took this photo during the golden hour, in an attempt the make the lighting more appealing. I blurred the background so it wouldn't distract the viewer. I like how the lighting made her hair golden and gave her face a more healthy glow. For this portrait picture, i used loop lightening, which can be seen with the little shadow by her nose that looks like a loop. I used her sweatshirt to emphasize the color red. I made it pop by boosting the color and messing with the curves. The only thing i don't like is that she is squinting her eyes, but that cant exactly be fixed.

Red Colored Pencils

This photo was taken on the macro setting to get a clear detailed focus and blur the background. I used a custom white balance and an ISO of 80. I also changed the color settings to make the color more vibrant. I like the texture that is seen in the colored pencil. I also like the contrast of the dark shadows on the light paper. This photo shows depth of field, and i put a red crayon in the background to add interest and to lead the viewer's eye through the whole photo.

Coca Cola Red

This photo was also taken to capture the color red. I used the macro setting to make the first bottle sharp in focus, but allow the other bottles to blur into the background. I used an ISO of 100 to avoid digital noise and used a -1/3 exposure so the white wasn't overly bright. I like the depth of field, but i wish the "c" wasn't cut off a little.

Red Converse

For this photo, the focal point was supposed to show the color red. I took this photo during the golden hour, just before sunset. I like the sharp contrast of the white of the snow and shoes and the dark lines on the shoes. The shadows of the shoe ties also look interesting on the red shoes. I boosted the color slightly in photoshop to make the red pop a little more.

Black, White, and Red all over

For this self portrait, i was attempting to catch the color red in the flowers. I used a triangular focal point with the three bright red flowers. I know its kinda cliché with the color on black and white, but i think that it effectively captures the assignment of taking pictures of red. There are other colors, but compared to the red, they look very dull. I like the contrast of the bright red on the dark black background.

Photogram

For my photogram i used a flower petal and some lace. I put it in the developer but exposed afterwords instead of putting it right into the fix. This was to make it slightly pinkish, which i think makes it look more antique.

Portrait: Emily

For this picture, i blurred out the background to make the subject pop out more. I really liked the lighting for this photo. I used an ISO of 400 and an exposure of -1/3. I also used a white balance for florescent lighting, which gave her skin a healthy glow, but also added some shadow to her face.

Portrait: Korey

For this portrait picture, i used an ISO of 400, which reduced some of the digital noise. I like how the viewer can only see half his face, and part of it is covered in shadow. For this picture i used a +1/3 exposure and a tungsten white balance.

Portrait: Emily, again.

For this portrait picture, i used a picture of my sister. I used photo shop to make her eyes pop a little and to blur out the background and make her the main focus.  Again, i used an ISO of 800 which created some digital noise.

Portrait: Evan

For a portrait picture, i used my friend Evan. I like how his shadow falls across only half his face, while the other is bright. I changed the color setting on this photo in iPhoto and changed up the contrast. I used a -1/3 exposure and had to use an ISO of 800, which added a lot of digital noise.

Landscape: Road

For this landscape photo, I used a -1 exposure, an ISO of 400, and a custom white balance, off the snow. The original picture had a big black blob of tar, which i took out in photoshop because i didn't want it as the focal point. Instead, i have a yellow sign as the focal point. It helps to lead the viewers eye down the road, which continues into the background.

Downtown

For my landscape picture, i used a city scape of downtown Oconomowoc. I blurred out the main focal point, the person, to show movement and to emphasize the clear background. Although this picture is orangey, I like the resulting color. I also like the shin of the lights in the background.

Roses

For my other macro photo, i used some roses. I blurred out the background so it wouldn't distract from the focal point. I also slightly blurred out the two flowers except for the center of the rose on the right. This was to create a main point of interest. I also used iPhoto to boost the color and added some contrast.
This photo was a select focus. I used my cat's paw as the main focus. For this picture, i used a macro setting to get all the close up details. I like how the viewer can see all the little hairs on his paws. I used a custom white balance and a low ISO. I like how the back was blurred out and just the paw was in focus.

Little Guy

This is a photo of my cat, Little Guy. I used a macro setting to really enhance his texture. The viewer can really see all the details in his fur. For this picture i used a very low ISO to capture detail and avoid digital noise. I used a custom white balance to avoid a bluish tint.

Honey

For this photo, I used a macro setting on a line of honey jars. The lines of the honey jars leads the viewers eye to the back of the photo. I like how the light reflects off the glass and adds contrast against the brown cork. I used a low ISO to avoid blurriness and a custom white balance.

Nasty food

Another thing that bothers me is when people leave their nasty food in my room and forget to take it out. So i took a picture of a sandwich that my sister left on my dresser. I enhanced the color a little in iPhoto to make it pop. I also used a macro setting so I could get very close and avoid blurriness. I used an auto white balance to avoid any orangey glows.
For photography our class was supposed to take a picture of something that bothers us or makes us upset. I chose to take a picture of a gravestone because death is something that bothers me. For this photo i blurred out the background but made the foreground sharp. I brightened the flowers in iPhoto to add contrast against the white snow.

Friday, February 12, 2010

For this photo i used 2 of the same layers as background. It added a more orangey glow and made my hair more textured. In photo shop, i brightened my eyes and in iphoto i added some contrast. I like the overall effect of the texture in the background. It makes the photo look slightly aged.

Passing the Time

For this photo, I took 40 pictures of the same clock. I layered all the pictures in photo shop. I then changed the opacity from very high to very low so the ones in the background would be clear and then fade as the pictures progressed. This made the hands on the clock's face look very dim. I pulled some of the hands out and darkened them to add more contrast and interest. From there, I went to iPhoto and changed the picture to black and white, enhanced the color, blurred the edges, and added some contrast. Overall, I like the aged effect of the blur and intensity of the dark hands on the light clock face.

Friday, February 5, 2010

This photo has a lot of contrast between the red and green. I used an ISO of 400 and a +1/3 exposure. I created a custom white balance for this photo. The swirls in this photo start blurry, and as they move down they clear out. At the very end, the background is also blurry. This photo shows a lot of depth and leads the viewers eye to the background.
For this photo, I used the macro setting. I used an ISO of 400 to retain detail but avoid digital noise. I used a +1/3 exposure to slightly brighten the photo. A custom white balance was used for this photo. The green and the red in this photo complement each other effectively. I was attempting to blur out the background and make the pine cone very clear to show depth.
This photo was taken using a macro setting. I used an ISO of 80 to avoid digital noise. For the white balance i used tungsten. I like the contrast of the gold and the purple for this photo.

Convers

For this photo, i used a custom white balance. I also used a +1/3 exposure. This photo effectivly blurs out the background, making the toe of the shoe the main focus. I used an ISO of 400 to avoid some digital noise.

Montage

I chose this particular background because I really love the mountains. There is a piano in the background, blending into a mountain. I used this because I really love music and it is pretty much essential to my life. I put in a plant sprout to show growth and change. I used a zebra because every zebra has a unique pattern of stripes. This represents my originality. I put red hair on the zebra because I love having red hair and people often comment on it. I stuck some books to the library because people usually consider me smart. There are balloons to show color and excitement, which is important in my life. And lastly i have a hot air balloon because i enjoy freedom, and a hot air balloon effectively displays this.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

For this bell photo I changed the perspective to add interest. I used a custom white balance and an ISO of 400. With the 400 ISO, there is less digital noise. The contrast was also slightly altered in iPhoto.

beads

For this photo i enhanced the color in iPhoto to bring out the brighter pinks, purples, and blues. I used the white on the shirt for the custom white balance and a HI ISO. There is some white noise but the object was not blurry.
This picture is on a macro setting. There is a lot of digital noise because i used the HI setting of ISO. I used a custom white balance so it wasn't too orange or blue.
For this photo I used the macro setting and had an ISO of 800. This allowed the photo to be close up but added some digital noise to the details.

Monday, February 1, 2010

The perspective of this tree was used to create interest. The lines of the branches lead the viewers eye through the whole photo. I used a daylight white balance for the light of the sun. I also used a +1/3 exposure, making it slightly brighter.
In this landscape photo, the fire hydrant is the focal point. It is off-centered and the horizontal line of the fence moves the viewers eye. A daylight white balance was used along with a -1/3 exposure. This dulled down the photo and it's subjects and made the snow look more bright.
